Awards


The American College of Medical Toxicology is offers scholarships and awards to support research for medical toxicology fellows-in-training.

These award opportunities will become available at specific dates during the year, and we will notify the membership when they become available.

2007 Matthew J. Ellenhorn Award

The College established the Matthew J. Ellenhorn Award in 1996. Its purpose is to honor an individual with a distinguished career in medical toxicology who has made extraordinary contributions to the field. Such contributions may include teaching, clinical practice, research, or service to the discipline or the College.

ACMT Michael P. Spadafora Medical Toxicology Scholarship for Residents


Dr. Michael P. Spadafora was an academic emergency physician and medical toxicologist who was a member of the American College of Medical Toxicology.  Dr. Spadafora was dedicated to resident education.  After his death in October 1999, a scholarship was established to encourage residents to pursue Medical Toxicology fellowship training.

One recipient will be chosen to attend either the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology (NACCT), October 4-9, 2006 in San Francisco or the ACMT 2007 Spring Course.; The award of $1250 will provide funds for travel, meeting registration, meals, and lodging. Any PGY-1 or 2 (or PGY-3 in a 4 year program) in an ACGME or AOA approved residency program is eligible for the award.  The deadline for application is May 1, 2006.  The scholarship recipient will be notified of the award by May 15, 2006.  The recipient will be required to submit a summary of the meeting for publication in the ACMT Newsletter.


Applications must be submitted electronically to info@acmt.net and include:
 
  1. Curriculum Vitae of applicant.
  2. Verification of employment and letter of support from the applicant’s program director.
  3. Letter of nomination from an active member of ACMT. (Note: if the program director is an ACMT member, the letter in item 2 above will suffice).
  4. 1-2 page essay describing the applicant’s interest and background in Medical Toxicology.

ACMT/ORPHAN Medical Research Award

 

The American College of Medical Toxicology is pleased to announce the Orphan Medical Research Award for Antidotal Research

Goal:
 
The purpose of this award is to support new research in the area of antidotal therapy.
 
Amount:

The award is $7,500 available for support of a suitable research project

Requirements:

The principal investigator must be an ACMT member.
